This tutorial was written in PSP 12

but will work well with earlier

versions of PSP.

Intermediate Skill Level

Square shape graphic of choice.

Performance Notes

All settings will remain the same

as first used unless noted.

Although I tell what fills to use, you

may try making your own choices to

get your own unique results.

Don't make it ugly though and blame

it on me ! lol

Let's get started!

HEADER

1 File > Open

Open your graphic.

2 Window > Duplicate

Close the original.

3 Edit > Copy

4 Dropper Tool

Choose 2 colors that are dominant

from your graphic. One for the

Foreground and one for the

Background.

Make the background choice the

color that you will want your text

to be written on.

5 Materials Palette

Change your Foreground to

Gradient.

Settings:

Foreground-background

Angle = 0, Repeats = 0

Invert = NOT Checked

Style = Rectangular

Texture = NOT Checked

6 Materials Palette

Change your Background to

Pattern.

Settings:

Choose a border fill using your

own settings. Gold or Silver might

be a good choice for you.

7 File > Open

8 Window > Duplicate

9 Close the original.

10 Flood Fill Tool

Settings:

Match mode = None

Use all layers = NOT Checked

Blend mode = Normal

Opacity = 100

Left click and fill your layer with

your gradient.

11 Layers > New Raster Layer

12 Selections > Load/Save Selection >

Load Selection From Alpha Channel

Settings:

Selection # 1

Operation

Replace selection = Checked

Options

All boxes are NOT Checked.

Load

13 Flood Fill Tool

Right click and fill with your pattern.

14 Selections > Load/Save Selection >

Load Selection From Alpha Channel

Settings:

Selection # 2

15 Edit > Paste Into Selection

(This pastes your copied graphic into

the selections).

16 Optional Step:

Effects > Plugins > ?

If you have Alien Skin Eye Candy

of any version use the default

Clear Glass setting or one of your choice.

I used EC 4000 Glass.

17 Layers > New Raster Layer

18 Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout

Settings:

Vertical = 10, Horizontal = (minus) - 5

Opacity = 100 Blur = 6.00

Shadow color = Black

Fill interior with color = NOT Checked.

19 Layers > Merge > Merge Down

20 Layers > New Raster Layer

21 Selections > Load/Save Selection >

Load Selection From Alpha Channel

Settings:

Selection # 3

22 Flood Fill Tool

Right click and fill with your pattern.

23 Selections > Load/Save Selection >

Load Selection From Alpha Channel

Settings:

Selection # 4

24 Edit > Paste Into Selection

25 Optional Step:

Effects > Plugins > ?

Settings:

Change only 2 settings.

Vertical = (minus) - 6

Horizontal = (minus) - 3

37 Layers > Merge > Merge Down

38 Layers > Arrange > Move Down

39 Selections > Load/Save Selection >

Load Selection From Alpha Channel

Settings:

Selection # 6

40 Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow

Settings:

Vertical = 0, Horizontal = (minus) - 11

Opacity = 30, Blur = 5.00

Color = Black

Shadow on new layer = NOT Checked.

41 Selections > Load/Save Selection >

Load Selection From Alpha Channel

Settings:

Selection # 3

42 Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow

43 Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow

Settings:

Only change one setting.

Horizontal = 11

44 Selections > Load/Save Selection >

Load Selection From Alpha Channel

Settings:

Selection # 7

45 Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow

46 Selections > Select None

47 Layers > Merge > Merge Visible

48 Window > Duplicate

49 Layers > New Raster Layer

50 Add your watermark

51 Optional:

Feel free to add a layer and add text

if you would like!

52 File > Export > JPEG Optimizer

Set compression value to = 25

Save as your header.

53 Close it out and we will work on

the other header.

BACKGROUND TILE

1 Image > Resize

Settings:

Resample using Smart Size = Checked

Lock aspect ratio = Checked

Resize all layers = Checked

Pixel Dimension

Width and Height = 40 % Percent

2 Layers > New Raster Layer

3 Image > Canvas Size

Lock aspect ratio = NOT Checked

Width 1280, Height = 196 Pixels

Placement = Left Center

4 Materials Palette

Change your background back to Color

5 Flood Fill Tool

Right click and fill your layer with color

6 Layers > Arrange > Move Down

7 File > Export > JPEG Optimizer

Set compression value to = 25

Save as your background tile.

Letter Creator Tip

Set your left text margin at 266
