NEEDED:
birdfeed.jpg  Download it HERE

Performance notes:
All settings will remain the same
unless otherwise noted.
  The main goal of this tutorial is to
show you the method and then have
you apply what you learned to your
own graphics with your advanced
skills and knowledge.
 Be sure to read the Afterthoughts
section at the end of this tutorial.
-----------------------------------
LET'S BEGIN

1  File > Open > birdfeed.jpg

2  Window > Duplicate

3  Close the original

4  Layers > Promote Background Layer

5  Rename this layer " Image "

6  Layers > New Raster Layer

7  Rename this layer " Frame "

8  (S) Selection Tool > Custom Selection
Settings:
Left = 0, Top = 170
Right = 491, Bottom = 490
   OK

9  (F) Flood Fill Tool
Settings:
Match mode = None
Sample Merged = Not checked
Blend mode = Normal
Opacity = 100

10  Materials Palette
Change your Foreground to color
HTML #FFFFFF (This is white)

11  Left click in your selected area
and flood fill with white.
Note: When making your own of
course, you could pick any shade
or even make a mini frame on your
own in the place of the plain white.
This is an advanced tutorial. I trust
you know how to do what you would
like to do.  ha-ha

12  Selections > Modify > Contract = 8

13  Edit > Clear

14  Selections > Select None

15  (D) Raster Deform Tool
Note: In PSPX it is (K) Pick Tool
Hold your Shift key down and drag
the top left corner over to the right
about 50 pixels.
This will be shown on your Status
toolbar on the bottom of your PSP.
If yours is not turned on then turn
it on by:
View > Toolbars > Status

16  Hold Shift and drag the bottom right
corner node to the left to about
441x486.  That is about 50 pixels to
the left in a straight line.

17  Freehand Selection Tool
Settings:
Selection type = Point to Point
Mode = Add, Feather = 2
Smoothing = 0,
Anti-alias = Checked

Tip: View > Zoom in and use many
clicks for accuracy as you need.

Using Multiple clicks, outline the
bird and worm starting from the top
of the frame and the birds left side
above it . When you reach the other
side, try to stay within the center of
 the frame and go all the way around
double clicking to connect the start
and finish points of your selections.
See Example:

18  Selections > Invert

19  Make the bottom "Graphic" layer
active in your layers palette.

20  Edit > Clear
"Repeat Twice"

21  Selections > Select None

22  Make your top layer active in your
layers palette.
 This is the Frame layer.

23  Freehand Selection Tool
Settings:
Feather = 0
All other settings remain the same.

24  Select the white top border area
that is covering the bird.

25  Edit > Clear

26  Selections > Select None

27  (R) Crop Tool
Crop away any extra transparency
area that are around your image but
leave 5-10 extra pixels in those spots.
Do not lose any of your main image
or frame.

28  Image > Canvas Size
Settings:
Lock aspect ratio = NOT Checked
Look at the top aka "Original
Dimensions" and add 40 pixels
to both the Width and then 40
to the Height.
Placement = Center
   OK

29  Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow
Settings:
Vertical = 2  Horizontal = 2

Horizontal = (minus)-6
Opacity = 30, Blur = 20.00
Color = Black

32  Layers > Merge > Merge Visible

33  Layers > New Raster layer

34  Layers > Arrange > Send to Bottom

35  (F) Flood Fill Tool
Fill with your White color
(Color choice is actually optional:
See Afterthoughts at the end of this
tutorial for possible variations)

36  Layers > Merge > Merge Visible

37  (T) Text Tool (optional)
Add Text if you like.

38  Layers > New Raster Layer

39  Add your WaterMark !

40  File > Export > JPEG Optimizer
Compression = 25

That's it ! Read below please.
More examples:

In the one below I used the same
method on the top and bottom with
variations covered in the Afterthoughts.

Letter Creator Tip
Use what you have made as a Header
and set your background color to the
same as what you used on your creation.
In this case we used white.

AFTERTHOUGHTS

1 Finding an appropriate graphic to use
is the hardest thing.
 While testing one tester used a
lighthouse graphic. That was a good
idea. Good Luck !

2 Resize your graphic before you start
or your white border frame will be the
wrong size when you finish.
You would probably not want to
start with one larger than
530 x 470 pixels.
Another option with a large graphic
of course would be to Crop it first
leaving only the area you want to
work with and then follow the
resize suggestion.

3 Choosing the background is up to you
but you will want it to be tileable with the
same as you have used in your header.
You will want it to be a light shade to
enable the drop shadows to show.

4  For different graphics you may
decide to warp different ends of the
white frame to suit the appearance
with the graphic. For instance, instead
of top left and bottom right you might
perfer doing the same thing but with
the Top right and bottom left etc.
  Any of our KnT PSP graduates should
have no problem with this since they
have learned all about warping vector
text shapes. This is the same method.

Drop shadow settings should be
decided by the advanced creator.
My settings in this tutorial were just
to get you started. The advanced
creator can decide what is appropriate
for their particular graphic and the
effect they are trying to achieve.
