My Top Border Stretched Scrolling Text
Whew what a mouthful!

PaintShopPro and the graphic

Did you know that Hooty-Tuts are made to be used as a split-screen?!
That’s
why
they are made narrow!

I would say the
skill level
for this tutorial is
advanced intermediate!
This tut combines several techniques to make
one finished result and is quite extensive.
We will basically be doing a
Top Border,
Stretched Background,
Scrolling Text and
making a bubble
face on the graphic such as you
see in globes.
Not
trying to
scare
you, just saying it is a lot if
you are not used to most of these separate things!

Use the graphic below by
right clicking on it and
save it to your document
files.
1.Open up the graphic in
PaintShopPro
2.Duplicate the graphic twice
and close out the
original graphic.
3.Minimize one of the
duplicates. (We’ll get back
to it later.)
4.Eyedropper
of the graphic to set the
background color.
5.Image/Canvas size
Settings shown:
Width 1024 Height 241 Right 843
6.Duplicate the layer by
right clicking on the
Background layer
on your layer palette and
selecting layer.
7.Double click on
Copy of Background and
rename it Stretched
Background if you want.
8.Selection Tool
Draw the shape enclosing most of the image as is shown below. Be sure that you start all the way at the top and end all the way past the bottom.
9.Left click inside the box
of the marching ants

11.Left click and drag the
right middle node all
the way past the end as shown
below:
12.Ctrl + D (to deselect)
13.Image/Canvas size
Width1024 Height 768 Bottom 527

blue area to use as your
divider bar.
It should probably
be about
20-30
pixels in
height and all the way across
from end to end.
15.With your eyedropper
dark blue color to set the
foreground color and
for your border color.
(Light blue would probably be a
good color for your font when you are done!)

blue color.

Settings: 5 5 100, fill gaps checked
18.Effects/Geometric/Wave Settings: Horizontal Amp=100 Wavelength=11

Bevel Settings: Pillow, width=10, Sm=0 Depth=20 Amb=0 Shin=0 Angel=315 Inten=50 Ele=30
20.Ctrl + D
21.Layers/Merge All (flatten)
22.Minimize your background
to get it out of the
way and open the other
graphic!

Take a break and we’ll begin again!

With your new graphic opened
we are going to
try to get a bubble face
effect going on with it!
1.Image/Canvas Size
Settings:

Watch the numbers on the
bottom left of your
PSP screen as you
click and drag your cursor
from position 115x145 to
221x271, and then release your mouse button.
3.Selections/Modify/Contract
= 15
4.Selections/Modify/Feather = 20
5.Ctrl + C (to copy)
6.Ctrl + V (Paste as new
image)
7.Close out the other image
that you copied.
8.Set your Background color to null!

Settings:
10.Draw an oval shape around your graphic. Look at the goal at the top of this page for a reference. Basically you are circling the main portion of your graphic in an ellipse shape. On your own graphics this is what you will
aim for.
11.Layers/Convert to Raster
Layer
12.Click on the glasses on
the layer palette on
layer 1 to deactivate it so
only the circle is seen. Be sure your layer 2 with the circle is active.
13.Magic Wand
Settings: RGB 0 0 sample
merged unchecked.
14.Left click in the middle of the circle
15.Layers/New Raster Layer
16.Selections/Modify/Expand
=2
17.Effects/3D
effects/Cutout
Settings: Vertical=15, Horizontal=15
Opacity=16, Blur=36, colour=black , Fill unchecked
18.Effects/3D
effects/DropShadow
Settings: ver=5 hor=5
opac=65 blur=7.4
Color=Black
19.Effects/3D
effects/DropShadow
Same as before but
MINUS-5 on the ver & hor!
20.Layers/New Raster Layer

Settings:Vertical=Minus15, Horizontal=Minus15
Opacity=40, Blur=43, colour=black , Fill unchecked

24.Layer/New Raster Layer
26.Make the background style null.
Settings:

style-Solid, Type=freehand line, Width=7,
Close path unchecked
smaller curved line at the bottom left and a little

You don't need to be accurate with this!
We
are going to blur it.
29.Effects/Blur/Gaussian Blur at 4.0
30.Activate all the layers (no glasses
31.Layers/Merge Visible!
(This way it preserves the transparent area!)
32.Ctrl + C (copy)
33.Minimize and open up the
big background.
34.Ctrl + L (paste as new layer)

36.Click on the bubble image
and move it into
place in the upper left blue
section just a bit over the top of the border.
37.Layers/Merge all Layers
(flatten)
38.Save as a JPEG

You are ready to
put it into
Letter
Creator
on the Body page, image Left Upper,
Margins :Top 280 Left 10 Right 10
Font: I used Pristina at 14 points.
Finish Page to save it!
And you will have a scrolling text that looks
cool!

just to say the title didn’t it!
