7th Dimension Set Hooty-Tut© by Doyle Allen 3/14/04
Approved by the HootyTutTestersGroup!
Needed: PSP I used 8, settings maybe different if you use 7. If you do this with PSP7 then replace the Seamless Tiling steps with Simple Filters Quicktile Click underlined areas to download. Unpaid version will not have all the effects… Not required but nice to have. If you do not have this then skip the steps that use this plugin filter.
1 Preparation Select a graphic to use. Do not select a graphic with a lot of black on the outer edges since this will destroy the shadow effects that are needed for the effect were are trying for. Duplicate your graphic twice and close out your original. (Shift + D to duplicate) Minimize one of them. Image/Resize to no wider than 450 and the height should not be more than 390 pixels. Note: Settings for all effects stay the same unless new settings are shown.

47 Effects/3D Effects/Drop Shadow
48 Layers/Merge/Merge All (flatten)
49 Effects/Plugins/FM Tile Tools/Saturation Emboss Default settings This can enhance the illusion of depth. You may want to use Blend Emboss instead depending on the colors and effect on your graphic. Sharpening may also improve the appearance as an alternative.
50 Now you can add a new raster layer and add your watermark. 51 Layers/Merge/Merge All (flatten) Save your framed header now but do not close it out.
52 Minimize it *********************************** BACKGROUND
1 Maximize your minimized unframed image.
2 Image/Resize Lock aspect ratio UNCHECKED! 300 x 300 pixels.
3 Effects/Image Effects/Seamless Tiling (Example 2) Settings: Corner, Bidirectional, Hor. and Vert. both at Zero Transition% = 50, Linear checked!
4 Layers/Promote Background Layer (if needed)
5 Layers/New Raster Layer
6 Layers/Arrange/Send to bottom
7 Dropper Tool: Select a dark or light color from your graphic Keep in mind that this will be the color that your text will have to be written on later.
8 Flood Fill Tool: Fill the bottom transparent layer 100% Opacity.
9 Adjust/Add-Remove Noise Suggested Settings: Gaussian, Monochrome – Checked, Noise = 30%
10 Click on the top layer to make it active
11 On your layers palette click and drag the Opacity slider to the left until you can just barely see the image. You just do not want the visible image to be so visible that it will make your text hard to read when you use it later. (example 3)
12 Effects/Plugins/FM Tile Tools ..If you have this plug in choose between Blend or Saturation Emboss at the default setting.
13 Layers/Merge All ( Flatten)
14? Optional: (example 4 if you are going dark) Shift + B Adjust Brightness I like mine dark so I go deep into the –‘s. Use +’s if you are a fan of light backgrounds. The object is to make it test friendly and look good with what you have made. My preference is to make the image just barely visible….almost indistinguishable (dang? I knew that word?) or not quite recognizable.
15 Resize and sharpen to your judgment.
16 Save it for your background tile but do not close it out yet!
