SMOOTH GRADIENT SB

Needed:
I
used Paint Shop Pro 10.
I
believe PSP 8 and 9 could be used.
Unzip and put in your Gradients folder
Performance notes:
Once the selection is made it stays
active for most of this tutorial.
Settings remain the same unless
changes are noted.
OPEN YOUR PSP
1 File > New
Width = 1024 , Height = 245 Pixels
Raster Layer = Checked
Transparent = Checked
OK
2 Material Palette
Select a light shade for your
foreground color,
and the same shade but a little darker for
your background color.
Keep in mind that you want your colors
to be text friendly with the same color
text on both colors.
3 Material Palette
Change your Foreground to Gradient
Settings:
aFore-Back-Special1byHooty gradient
Angle = 45°, Repeats = 8,
Invert = Checked
Style = Linear, Texture = NOT Checked
OK
4 Flood Fill Tool
Settings:
Match Mode = None,
Use all layers= Checked
Blend mode: Normal, Opacity = 100
Flood fill your transparent image with
your Foreground Gradient
5 Image > Canvas Size
Settings:
Lock aspect ratio = NOT Checked
Width = 1024 , Height = 490 Pixels
Placement = Top - Middle
You should see that Bottom = 245 and
the rest are at zero.
OK
6 Layers > Duplicate
7 Image > Flip
8 Layers > Merge > Merge Visible
9 Adjust > Add/Remove Noise > Add Noise
Settings:
Gaussian = Checked , Noise = 10
Monochrome = Checked
OK
10 Layers > New Raster Layer
11 Material Palette
Setting:
Change only the Foreground gradient
Repeats = 49
OK
12 (S) Selection Tool
Custom Selection
Settings:
Left and Top both at 0 aka Zero
Right = 100
Bottom = 490
OK
13 Flood Fill Tool
Fill your new selection with your
foreground gradient
14 Layers > New Raster Layer
15 Material Palette
Setting:
Change only the Foreground gradient
Angle = 315°
OK
16 Flood Fill Tool
Fill your selection with your
foreground gradient
17 On your layers palette, change the top
layer mode to Darken
18 Turn off your bottom background layer
19 Layers > Merge > Merge Visible
20 Selections > Modify > Smooth
Settings:
Smoothing Amount = 75
Anti-alias = Checked
Preserve Corners = NOT Checked
OK
21 Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow
Settings:
Vertical = 0 , Horizontal = 10
Opacity = 30, Blur = 10.00
Color = Black
Shadow on new layer = NOT Checked
OK
22 Selections > Modify > Contract = 20
23 Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow
OK
24 Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow
Change only this setting:
Horizontal = (minus) -10
OK
25 Selections > Modify > Contract = 20
26 Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow
OK
27 Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow
Change only this
setting:
Horizontal = (plus) 10
OK
28 You might choose to Sharpen the top
layer border. This is optional.
Use whatever works/looks best to you.
29 Turn your Background layer ON
30 Add your watermark
31 File > Export > JPEG Optimizer
Compression = 20 suggested.
OK

Letter Creator instructions:
Place this side border slat in on your body
page.
Set your left margin to 120 for your text.
Select a good, easy to read font and text color.
Image Placement = Top and Left
Be sure to select the Tile button.
Save it and you are done!
