Needed:

Paint Shop Pro 8, 9 or 10

Simple Filters > Top Left Mirror

 

Supplies below are available HERE

(put in your patterns folder in your PSP files)

(See Afterthoughts at the bottom)

You should have Arrowhead-Ball.

PSPStyledLine..comes with this
download just in case you need it.
 
Performance notes:
a. All added borders are symmetric so
keep that checked.
b. Always select a color not on the edges
of your graphic when adding borders
so they can easily be selected with the
magic wand.
c. All settings remain the same unless
otherwise stated.
 
 
 
MAKING THE FRAME
 
1  Open a graphic in PSP
Use a basically square shape graphic.
 
2  Shift + D (duplicates image)
 
3  Close the original graphic
 
4  Dropper Tool
Select 2 colors from your graphic.
One Dark for the foreground
One lighter for your background
These two colors will be fills on parts
of your frame. They should go together
well with each other and with the overall
graphic that you are using.
 
5  Material Palette
Change your foreground to the
Foreground - Background Gradient
Settings:
Angle = 0 , Repeats = 0 ,
Invert = Not Checked
Style = Linear
   OK
 
6  Material Palette
Change your background to Pattern
Settings:
Texture = Not Checked
D Goldfold
Angle = 0, Scale = 100
   OK
 
7  Image > Resize
Settings:
Resample = Smart Size
Lock aspect ratio = Checked
Resize all layers = Checked
Width = no more than 410 pixels
Height = no more than 350 pixels
   OK
 
8  Image > Add Borders = 2
 
9  Magic Wand
Settings:
Mode = Replace, Match mode = RGB Value
Tolerance = 30,
Sample merged = Not Checked
Contiguous = Checked, Feather = 0
Anti-Alias = Checked , Outside
  Select your new border
 
10  Flood Fill Tool
Right click on your new border and fill
with your gold pattern.
 
11  Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel
Settings:
Bevel #2, Width = 8
Smoothness = 40 , Depth = 3
Ambience and Shininess both = 0
Color = White , Angle = 315
Intensity = 50, Elevation = 30
    OK
 
12  Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow
Settings:
Vertical and Horizontal both at 5
Opacity = 30 , Blur = 5.00
Color = Black
   OK
 
 
 
13  Image > Add Borders = 5
 
14  Magic Wand
Select new border
 
15  Flood Fill Tool
Flood with your gold pattern
 
16  Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel
 
 
17  Image > Add Borders = 15
 
18  Magic Wand
Select new border
 
19  Flood Fill Tool
Flood with your Foreground -
Background Gradient

Shadow Color = Black
Fill interior with color = NOT Checked

53  Image > Add Borders = 5
 
54  Magic Wand
Select new border
 
55  Flood Fill Tool
Flood with your gold fill
 
56  Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel
 
57  Selections > Select None
 
 
58  Material Palette
Click on the double arrow toggle so
your gold is now in the Foreground
square.
 
59  (V) Pen Tool
Settings:
Mode = Draw point to point
All of the following 3 are Checked ...
Connect Segments, Create on Vector
and Show Nodes.
Line style = Arrowhead ball
Width = 4.00 , Anti-alias = Checked
 
 
 
60  Layers > New Raster Layer
 
61 Turn off the (now) background aka
Foreground - Background Gradient fill (null)
 
62  We are going to click 3 times on the
2nd biggest gold border from the out
side of the frame.
Note the 3 white arrows above:
Click one = middle left
Click two = top corner
Click three = top middle
  Apply (click the check mark)
Note: It is ok if you miss the center
targets a bit. It may look a little different
but will still be good and looking fine!
If you messed up that badly you can
always Edit > Undo LOL
 
63  Layers > Convert to Raster Layer
 
64  Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel
 
65  Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow
 
 
66  Effects > Plugins > Simple
Top Left Mirror
   OK
 
67  Finish it up. Add your Watermark !
 
68  File > Export > JPEG Optimizer
Compression at about 20-25 suggested
 
 
MAKING THE BACKGROUND
 
1  Materials Palette
Turn your Foreground - Background
Gradient fill back on
 
2  File > New
Transparent = Checked
Raster Background = Checked
Width = 30 pixels
Height = 490
  OK
 
3  Flood Fill Tool
Fill your transparent image with your
Foreground - Background Gradient
 
4  Effects > Plugins > Simple
Top Left Mirror
   OK
 
5  Layers > New Raster Layer
 
6  Image > Canvas Size
Settings:
Width = 31 , Height = 490 pixels
Lock aspect ratio = NOT Checked
Placement = middle - left
(All should be zero (0) on the bottom
right side except for Right = 1)
   OK
 
7  Flood Fill with your gold
 
8  Layers > Arrange > Send to Bottom
 
9  Layers > Merge > Merge All (flatten)
 
10  Effects > Image Effects > Seamless
Settings:
Tiling method = Mirror
Direction = Vertical
   OK
 
11  File > Export > JPEG Optimizer
Compression at about 20-25 suggested

AFTERTHOUGHTS

For the styled lines, of course you can

use your own or different styled

lines.. (we teach how to make them in

our DIY Course) and during testing we

saw that using silver instead of gold

fills looked really good with some, also

another variation showed that filling

the styled line with one or both of the

colors from the Fore-Background gradient

looked really great too!
