Needed:
1 Paint Shop Pro ( I used 8)
2 Graphic, wider than it is long.
Note: Too dark of a graphic will ruin the
dropshadow effect that is used.
3 In-Or-Out Template
Click Here to download it
========================
Header – Phase 1
1 Open the graphic, using the guidelines
above to decide which one to use.
2 View / Zoom / OUT by 5
You will need to keep the graphic handy,
so by making it smaller it takes up less
space but will still be handy.
2 Edit / Copy
3 Open the template, Shift + D to duplicate,
then close the original for safekeeping.
The Red Layer named Top should already
be the active layer, and the marching ants
should already be running around the top.
4 Ctrl + Shift + L
(or Edit / Paste / Paste into Selection)
5 Make Yellow Right the active layer in
your layers palette.
6 Magic Wand: Click on the right Yellow
triangle.
Settings:
7 Ctrl + Shift + L
8 Make Green Left the active layer
9 Magic Wand:
Select the left Green triangle.
10 Ctrl + Shift + L
11 Click on your graphic, Image / Flip
12 Edit / Copy
13 Go back to your working layers palette
& Click on your Blue Bottom
LOL no the one on your layers palette silly!
14 Magic Wand:
Click on the bottom blue image
15 Ctrl + Shift + L
16 Ctrl + D
(or Selections / Select None)
17 On the layers palette I have some opacity
%’s for the layers as a guideline.
If you use these the finished appearance will
have a little more dimension in the appearance..
You may choose to leave them all at 100%,
or maybe just adjust the Blue bottom layer for
a reflection effect… This is a creative
decision you need to make on your own.
I think different graphics that you may use
will lend themselves to different settings for
the best appearance.
18 Layers / Merge / Merge Visible
19 (a) Turn off the merged layer
(b) Turn on the Borders layer
(c) Make the Borders layer the active layer
20 Magic Wand:
Select the black borders with one click.
21 F (Flood Fill Tool)
Fill with a grainy, like wood or patterned fill.
Warning: Plain fills like solid colors seem to
want to give the borders the jaggies which
do not look so good.
Use whatever fill or effect you like.
22 If it needs a bevel, use one.
I am using Effects / 3D Effects / Inner Bevel
Bevel #2, Width = 5,
Smoothness = 3, Depth = 3
Ambience = 10, Shininess = 0, Color = White
Angle = 315, Intensity = 50, Elevation = 30
23 Effects / 3D Effects / DropShadow
Vertical = 11, Horizontal = 1
Opacity = 100, Blur = 15
Color = Black, Shadow on new layer = unchecked
24 Selections / Select None
25 Turn all your layers on so you can see what
you now have.
Note: If you have slid the opacity back on any
of your layers earlier, you may want to flood fill
your Background Fill layer with a different color.
The color you choose will definitely change the
appearance for the good or the bad depending
on what you use. Black or a dominant color from
your graphic is usually the best ones to use.
26 Layers / Merge / Merge All (flatten)
======================================
Header - Phase 2

a background layer .

Horizontal & Light from left/top both = Checked.
6 Select the transparent rectangle on the
right side of your header image
8 Image / Mirror
9 Effects / Texture Effects / Blinds
10 Ctrl + A
(or Selections / Select All)
11 Selections / Modify / Contract = 5
12 Ctrl + Shift + i
(or Selections / Invert
13 (F) Flood Fill Tool:
Fill the new border selection with a fill of
you own choosing.
You might just want to use the same as you
did on the previous borders.
