Answers to your FAQnA's from Hooty and friends!
PROTECTING YOUR COMPUTER...
It is not surprising that a
lot of repetitive questions
come to us. We are all
learning at different speeds, starting
times, skill levels etc. But
if we look at what really matters
in the beginning it is how
do I protect my computer.. What
do I need.. how cheap can I
get the programs I need?
Here is a list of
Shareware.. (that means FREE) that does
a very good job for us.
Be aware , that a lot of
these programs also have a pay for
version so be sure you get
the Home editions when you
download them.. If you have
the bucks and really like the
programs of course you can
upgrade to a pay for version
later... . but first.. take
them for a test drive. You will probably
be satisfied with the free
versions.
Click the Name of the
programs to read and/or download!
ANTI-VIRUS
avast! 4 Home Edition is a FREE
full-featured antivirus package
designed exclusively for home users.
It provides constant protection
against viruses and will
automatically update your virus files.
It also features an e-mail scanner
that supports most e-mail programs
such as Outlook Express,IM and
Eudora.
SPYWARE &
ADWARE
This is a beta (test) version of
Microsoft's anti-spyware program.
Set this free program to update
automatically.
I do and a lot of others use
this... it is a beta version so I
would imagine they will start
selling it in the future. But
for now it works great and is
still free!
Very popular..Doesn't seem
to bog down IM
speed as you send and
receive messages.
