This tutorial was written in PSP 10

but you should be able to do it in any

version of Paint Shop Pro.

Intermediate Skill Level

 

NEEDED:

1  Alpha Selection Alpha 

"saturn_alphabyhooty"

Click HERE

You will need to unzip it!

 

2  Graphic Selection Criteria:

A graphic that is wide such as a

800 x 600 pixel graphic will work

best.

Focal point note:

It is best if the focal point of your

graphic selection is at the top 2/3rds

of the graphic.

 

3  Pattern 100rr HERE

This is the silvery pattern I used

in this tutorial. Put in your PSP

patterns folder before you open

your PSP.

 

 

PERFORMANCE NOTES

All settings will remain the same

unless otherwise noted.

LET'S BEGIN !

OPEN PAINT SHOP PRO

 

1  File > Open

Your wide graphic of choice.

 

2  Edit > Copy

 

3  Zoom out

(minus - , on your keyboard)

Make it about the size of your thumb

pad.

 

4  Move it to your lower corner

of your workspace. We will be

coming back to it.

No need to minimize.

 

 

5  File > Open

saturn_alphabyhooty.psp

 

6  Window > Duplicate

Close the original.

 

7  Selections > Load/Save Selection >

Load Selection From Alpha Channel

Settings:

Selection # 1

Replace selection = Checked

Options = Nothing Checked

Load

 

8  Edit > Paste Into Selection

 

9  Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow

Settings:

Vertical = 0,  Horizontal = (minus) -11

Opacity = 100,  Blur = 0

Color = Black

Shadow on new layer = NOT Checked

 

10  Selections > Invert

 

11  Effects > Texture Effects >

Sculpture

Settings:

Default settings.

Left click the arrow at the top right

of your settings box to set as default.

Change the pattern to 100rr if you

want to match what I did in this

tutorial.

NOTE:

If you do not like the default texture

feel free to use another one of your

own choosing ok?! Good deal!

 

12  Make your zoomed out graphic

in the corner active.

 

13  Image > Flip

 

14  Edit > Copy

Close or minimize this graphic.

 

 

15  Make your Alpha layers active

again.

 

16  Layers > New Raster Layer

 

17  Selections > Load/Save Selection >

Load Selection From Alpha Channel

Settings:

 

Selection # 2

Load

 

18  Edit > Paste Into Selection

 

19  Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow

Settings:

Vertical = 11,  Horizontal = 0

 

20  Selections > Invert

 

21  Effects > Texture Effects >

Sculpture

 

 

22  Layers > New Raster Layer

 

23  Selections > Load/Save Selection >

Load Selection From Alpha Channel

Settings:

 

Selection # 3

Load

 

24  Edit > Paste Into Selection

 

25  Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow

Settings:

Vertical = 0,  Horizontal = (minus) - 11

 

26  Selections > Invert

 

27  Effects > Texture Effects >

Sculpture

 

28  Selections > Select None

 

29  Layers > Arrange >

Send to Bottom

 

30  Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow

Settings:

Vertical and Horizontal both at 5

Opacity = 30,  Blur = 5.00

 

31  Apply the same drop shadow

to the other 2 layers.

 

32  Make the top layer active.

This is the partial ellipse shape.

 

33  Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow

Settings:

Vertical = 40,  Horizontal = 0

 

 

34  Layers > New Raster Layer

 

35  Material Palette

Change your Foreground to a color

for your background fill. This color

will also be what you will use for your

stationery background color so you

want it to be text friendly.

 

36  (F) Flood Fill Tool

Settings:

Match mode = None

Use all layers = Checked

Blend mode = Normal

Opacity = 100

Left click and flood your newest layer.

 

37  Layers > Arrange > Send to Bottom

 

38  Layers > Merge > Merge Visible

 

39  Layers > New Raster Layer

Add your watermark.

 

40  File > Export > JPEG Optimizer

Compression = 25

 

You are done!

 

Letter Creator Tip

Set your background color the same

as it is in the header so they will

blend nicely together.
