This tutorial was written in PSP 10

but you should be able to do it in any

version of Paint Shop Pro.

 

Intermediate Skill Level

NEEDED:

Alpha Selection "2EZ.psp"

Get it HERE !

You will need to unzip it!

AND ....

A graphic that is wide such as a

800 x 600 pixel graphic will work

best.

 

Performance Notes

All settings will remain the same

unless otherwise noted.

 

I give colors and suggested fills for

this tutorial but feel free to change them

to suit your own desires and purposes.

MAKING THE HEADER

LET'S BEGIN !

OPEN PAINT SHOP PRO

 

1  File > Open

Your wide graphic of choice.

 

2  Edit > Copy

 

3  Window > Duplicate

 

4  Close your original

 

5  Dropper Tool

Foreground color

Select a dominant light or

medium light color to be used

as a background color.

 

6  Materials Palette

Background

Change to what you would like

your borders and trim to be

which could be gold or silver

pattern for instance.

Use your own settings for this.

You could even use the foreground

color for this if you wanted.

 

7  Minimize your graphic

 

 

8  File > Open

"2EZ.psp

 

9  Window > Duplicate

 

10  Close the original

 

11  Selections > Load/Save Selection >

Load Selection From Alpha Channel

Settings:

Selection # 1

Replace selection = Checked

Options = Nothing Checked

Load

 

12  Edit > Paste Into Selection

 

 

13  Layers > New Raster Layer

  

14  Selections > Load/Save Selection >

Load Selection From Alpha Channel

Settings:

Selection # 2

Load

 

15  Flood Fill Tool

Settings:

Match mode = None

Use all layers = NOT Checked

Blend mode = Normal

Opacity = 100

Fill with your desired trim choice.

I am using the Foreground color

from the graphic that I chose earlier

for this tutorial.

 

16  Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow

Settings:

Vertical = 0,  Horizontal = 5

Opacity = 40,  Blur = 5.00

Color = Black

Shadow on new layer = NOT Checked

 

 

17  Layers > New Raster Layer

 

18  Selections > Load/Save Selection >

Load Selection From Alpha Channel

Settings:

Selection # 3

Load

 

19  Left click and fill your selection

with your trim choice.

 

20  Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow

 

21  Selections > Select None

 

22  Layers Palette

Lower the layer opacity to 70.

 

23  Layers > Merge > Merge Visible

 

24  Layers > New Raster Layer

 

25  Layers > Arrange > Send to Bottom

 

 

MAKE THE BACKGROUND

 

1  Window > Duplicate

 

2  Image > Resize

Settings:

Resample using Smart Size

Lock aspect ratio = Checked

Resize all layers = Checked

Width = 150 Pixels

Height should automatically adjust

to 118 Pixels.

 

3  Image > Canvas Size

Settings:

Lock aspect ratio = NOT Checked

Width = 1280,  Height = 118 Pixels

Placement = Left Center

 

4  Flood Fill Tool

Left click and fill with your

Foreground color.

 

5  Adjust > Add/Remove Noise >

Add Noise

Suggested Settings:

Random = Checked

Noise = 10-20

Monochrome = NOT Checked

Use what you like best.

 

6  Layers Palette

Make your top layer active

 

7  Adjust > Sharpness > Sharpen

 

8  Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow

 

9  File > Export > JPEG Optimizer

Compression = 25

 

10  Close your background tile and

let's go back to the header and finish

it.

BACK TO THE HEADER

Starting where we left off....

 

26  Flood Fill Tool

Left click and fill your bottom

layer with your Foreground color.

 

27  Adjust > Add/Remove Noise >

Add Noise

 

28  Selections > Load/Save Selection >

Load Selection From Alpha Channel

Settings:

Selection # 1

Load

 

29  Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow

 

30  Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow

Settings:

Change the Horizontal setting to

minus - 5

Lower the Opacity to 20

 

31  Selections > Select None

 

32  Layers > New Raster Layer

 

33  Layers > Arrange > Bring to Top

Add your Watermark!

 

34  File > Export > JPEG Optimizer

Compression = 25

 

That's it! 2EZ wasn't it? ha-ha

Letter Creator Tip:

Set your left text margin at about 160.
