This tutorial was written in PSP 10

but you should be able to do it in any

version of Paint Shop Pro.

 

Intermediate Skill Level

NEEDED:

A wide graphic such as a

800 x 600 pixel graphic will

work best.

PERFORMANCE NOTES
All settings will remain the same

unless otherwise noted.

LET'S BEGIN !

OPEN PAINT SHOP PRO

 

HEADER

 

1  File > Open

Your wide graphic of choice.

 

2  Layers > Promote Background Layer

 

3  Window > Duplicate

 

4  Close your original

 

5  Image > Resize

Settings:

Resample using = Smart Size

Lock aspect ratio = Checked

Resize all layers = Checked

No bigger than:

Width = 580,  Height = 430 Pixels

 

6  Selections > Select All

 

7  Selections > Modify > Contract

Number of pixels = 20

 

8  Selections > Invert

 

 

9  Layers > New Raster Layer

 

10  Materials Palette

Foreground:

Select a pattern and settings of

your choice.

Most likely a gold or silver will

be nice.

Texture = NOT Checked.

Background:

Select a color that you would like for

your background to be. This will also

be used for your main stationery

background color.

 

11  (F) Flood Fill Tool

Settings:
Match mode = None
Use all layers = Checked
Blend mode = Normal
Opacity = 100
Left click and flood your selection.
 
12  Selections > Modify > Contract
Number of pixels = 5
 
13  Edit > Clear
Or press delete on your keyboard.
 
 
14  Selections > Select None
 
15  Image > Canvas Size
Settings:
Lock aspect ratio = NOT Checked
Width = 640,  Height =  490 Pixels
Placement = Center
 
 
16  Edit > Copy
 
17  Effects > Distortion Effects > Wave
Settings:
Both amplitudes at 3
Both Wavelengths at 5
Transparent selected.
Note:
Using the wave effect in this manner
will leave some stray parts in each
corner which you can select with
your freehand selection tool and
delete or use your eraser to erase
if you want. Up to you.
 
18  Edit > Paste As New Layer
 
 
19  Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow
Settings:
Vertical and Horizontal both at 2
Opacity = 50,  Blur = 2.00
Color = Black
Shadow on new layer = NOT Checked
 

20  Make the middle layer active

and repeat the same drop shadow.

 

21  Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow

Settings:

Vertical and Horizontal both at

(minus) - 2

Opacity = 30

 

22  Make the top layer active and

repeat the same drop shadow.

 

 

23  Layer > New Raster Layer

 

24  Layers > Arrange > Send to Bottom

 

25  Flood Fill Tool

Right click and fill your new layer with

your background color.

 

26  Adjust > Add/Remove Noise >

Add Noise

Suggested Settings:

(Use your own or mine)

Random, Noise = 10

Monochrome = NOT Checked

A Departure to make the

BACKGROUND TILE

 

27  Turn off your two bottom layers

in your layers palette.

 

28  Make your top layer active.

 

29  Layers > Merge > Merge Visible

 

30  (S) Selection Tool

Custom Selection

Settings:

Top = 66,  Left = 0

Right = 80,  Bottom = 166

 

31  Edit > Copy

 

32  Selections > Select None

 

 

33  Edit > Paste As New Image

 

34  Effects > Image Effects >

Seamless Tiling

Settings:

Mirror and Vertical selected.

Vertical offset = 0,  Width = 50

Transition = 50

 

35  Image > Canvas Size

Settings:

Width = 1280,  Height = 100 Pixels

Placement = Left Center

 

 

36  Layers > New Raster Layer

 

37  Flood Fill Tool

Right click and fill your new layer with

your background color.

 

38  Adjust > Add/Remove Noise >

Add Noise

 

39  Layers > Arrange > Send to Bottom

 

40  File > Export > JPEG Optimizer

Compression = 25

 

41  Close or minimize. We are finished

making our background tile.

Now back to the header!

BACK TO THE HEADER

 

42  Layers Palette

Turn the bottom 2 layers back on

in your layers palette.

 

43  Layers > Merge > Merge Visible

 

44  (T) Text Tool (optional)

Add text if you like.

Use your own settings and words.

You might like to add a Drop

Shadow as well to your text.

Up to you.

 

45  Layers > New Raster Layer

Add your watermark.

 

46  File > Export > JPEG Optimizer

Compression = 25

 

You are finished!

 

Letter Creator Tip:

Change the left text margin to 78.
